Harambee Youth Clubs
"Harambee" is a Swahili word that means "Let's get together and push!". Harambee is the year-round club program for neighborhood youth. Each club provides ongoing activities that include Bible studies, recreational activities, one-on-one mentoring, and seasonal camps and retreats. Youth who 'grow up' through Harambee's elementary and middle school clubs become members of the high school Emerging Leaders program. Harambee gives kids a chance to experience God's love and discover His plan for their lives.
Emerging Leaders
The Emerging Leaders Program is the high school leadership development component of Neighborhood Ministries. Emerging Leaders study and experience Christian leadership and citizenry through mentoring, discipleship, and as leaders of the Elementary Harambee clubs and the Summer Enrichment Program.
Summer Enrichment
The Summer Enrichment Program is a five week summer day camp for third through fifth grade community youth. The Emerging Leaders spend months designing the curriculum and preparing to lead this unique and creative program. The presence of youth in leadership has a powerful impact both on those leading and the campers whose potential is ignited as they see modeled in the youth leaders possibilities for their own lives.
Family and Community Programs
The Teen Moms support group provides emotional support and practical helps for teenage mothers with pre-school children. Weekly meetings alternate between discussions (that focus on aspects of mothering) and crafts. While the mothers enjoy “time-out” from their children, the children's program provides childcare and instruction for the infants and toddlers.
Family Night is a quarterly inter-generational event where extended families of Neighborhood Ministries youth gather for food, games and fun interaction.
MomTime is a weekly gathering of Spanish and English-speaking mothers for crafts, fun and language study.
Neighborhood Ministries also partners with community organizing groups that empower families to improve their community.
Mission
Through financial partnerships and volunteer opportunities, Neighborhood Ministries helps Christians participate in today's urban mission. By sharing resources through consultations and training, Neighborhood Ministries also helps local churches develop youth leadership and mission programs among the growing residential poor of their changing neighborhoods.
Friends Concerts
The Friends Concert Series is a special thank you ministry to friends of Neighborhood Ministries. The concerts provide encouragement through song by vocalist Ted Travis and his musician friends. Designed for churches and other Christian group gatherings, Ted shares songs that are inspired by stories of God’s handiwork in the city.
